14 So that we are no longer children [spiritually immature],
tossed back and forth
[like ships on a stormy sea] and carried about by
every wind of [shifting] doctrine,
by the cunning and trickery of [unscrupulous] men,
by the deceitful scheming of people ready to do anything [for personal profit].

Ephesians 6:10-17Easy-to-Read Version (ERV)
10 To end my letter I tell you, be strong in the Lord and in his great power.
11 Wear the full armor of God. Wear God’s armor so that you can fight against the devil’s clever tricks.
12 Our fight is not against people on earth. We are fighting against
the rulers and authorities and the powers of this world’s darkness.
We are fighting against the spiritual powers of evil in the heavenly places.
13 That is why you need to get God’s full armor. Then on the day of evil,
you will be able to stand strong. And when you have finished the whole fight,
you will still be standing.
14 So stand strong with the belt of truth tied around your waist,
and on your chest wear the protection of right living.
15 On your feet wear the Good News of peace to help you stand strong.
16 And also use the shield of faith with which you can stop all the burning arrows
that come from the Evil One.
17 Accept God’s salvation as your helmet.
And take the sword of the Spirit—that sword is the teaching of God.

22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.
James 4:6 New Revised Standard Version Catholic Edition (NRSVCE)
6 But he gives all the more grace; therefore it says,
5 Examine and test and evaluat
and showing the proper fruits of it. Test and prove yourselves
Do you not yourselves realize and know [thoroughly by an ever-increasing experience]
that Jesus Christ is in you—unless you are [counterfeits] disapproved on trial and rejected?

3 For if anyone thinks himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself.

2 Those who think they know something do not yet know anything as they should.

26 He said to him, “What is written in the law? What do you read there?”
27 He answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul,
and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.”
28 And he said to him, “You have given the right answer; do this, and you will live.”
